We are back at it again with our Sportpesa Mega Jackpot post-match analysis. Brace yourselves as last week’s sportpesa mega jackpot games had it all, from tumbling records to stunning comebacks. With this in mind, lets dive right into it, shall we?

Swindon v Accrington

Our 1st Pick: X

Our 2nd Pick: 2X

Result: 3-0

Champions Accrington Stanley were pummeled 3-0 by Swindon on their final-day forcing them to jump into League One football next season without much aplomb.

The home team goals from Marc Richards, Keshi Anderson and Paul Mullin meant that they wrapped up their campaign on a high to boost Phil Brown’s aspirations of keeping the manager’s job full-time.

Marc pulled Swindon Town ahead in the 14th minute when he tucked in a Kyle Knoyle cross from close range. Anderson made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute in what can only be described as an exceptional goal. The January transfer window signing from Crystal Palace was involved in a neat one-two with James Dunne and the English winger then steadied himself before slotting the perfectly weighted return ball high into the back of the net.

Paul then put the match beyond reach for the champions when he made it 3-0 10 minutes into the second half with a low, drilled effort. Notably though, both teams ended the game with 10 men after Swindon’s Dunne and his rival namesake Jimmy Dunne were sent off following an altercation a scuffle.

Based on the history between the two, we had gone for a draw as our 1st pick and double chance giving the champions a win or draw in our 2nd pick. None proved accurate as the home side found another gear.

Nottingham County v Luton Town

Our 1st Pick: 1

Our 2nd Pick: X

Result: 0-0

Notts County and 10-man Luton had to be content with a point a piece on the final day of the season after fighting out an entertaining goalless draw. Goalless draws are usually drab affairs but this was nothing close to that as goal scoring opportunities and slick build up were in plenty.

With more than 4,000 vociferous fans backing them, the promoted Hatters looked lively early on with Olly Lee forcing Collin into a great save with a powerful pile-driver.

The hosts, already guaranteed of a play-off place, had their moments with Jon Stead having a shot deflected behind for a corner while James Shea also saved from Jorge Grant.

The Magpies’ hopes of a victory were boosted early in the second half when Danny Hylton picked up a second yellow card for a foul on Shaun Brisley.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Hatters kept trying to find a breakthrough with Stacey coming close following a rapid counter attack. And only a fantastic last-ditch tackle from Matt Tootle denied Ruddock-Mpanzu from making the breakthrough at the expense of a corner.

The draw meant Kevin Nolan’s side finished fifth and they will face Coventry in the play-off semi-finals.

Based on head to head records and current form, we had a host win as our 1st pick. However, with the hosts guaranteed a play-off spot, we had a draw as our 2nd pick and it proved accurate.

Watford v Newcastle

Our 1st Pick: X

Our 2nd Pick: 1

Result: 2-1

In what was one of the shock result of the weekend, the Benitez’s men slipped to a third successive defeat at Watford, who ensured their Premier League survival thanks to first-half goals from Roberto Pereyra and Andre Gray.

Pereyra ended his side’s run of three matches without a goal after just two minutes when he slotted home Abdoulaye Doucoure’s neat reverse pass.

Star-player, Ayoze Perez did pull a goal back in the 55th minute but, despite all their second-half dominance, Newcastle could not find the equaliser. Notably, the score line could have been more damaging as Captain Troy Deeney had a golden chance to make it 3from the spot, but Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka was equal to both Deeney’s penalty kick and the resulting rebound after Paul Dummett had brought down Gray in the box.

The Newcastle’s players looked as if they were already on holiday in the first half of Saturday’s defeat at Watford, sentiments which were echoed by their manager in his post-match interview.

With both teams relatively safe and with nothing realistic to chase, we went for a stalemate as our 1st pick. Based on home advantage, we gave hornets a straight win in our second pick and it proved accurate.

Crewe v Cheltenham

Our 1st Pick: 1

Our 2nd Pick: 1X

Result: 2-1

On-loan striker Miller was the star of the show as for the hosts. Crewe, who fielded a starting 11 comprised entirely of players who have come through their youth system, finished their season as 2-1 winners against Cheltenham.

Miller, in his second stint back at his first club, put the hosts ahead with a clinical 17th-minute strike. In what was a thrilling encounter, the visitors equalized George Lloyd, only for 30-year-old Miller to grab his 2nd and seal the points the points after 62 minutes.

Fun fact: Crewe’s feat of fielding an all-Academy-produced 11 wasn’t new to them as they had done the same, on the final day of the 2012-13 League One season when they ended up with a 2-0-win against Walsall.

Based on head to head records, we had gone for a home win as our 1st pick and it proved to be the winning pick.

Forest Green v Grimsby

Our 1st Pick: 2

Our 2nd Pick: X

Result: 0-3

JJ Hooper’s second-half hat-trick handed Grimsby a comfortable victory at Forest Green on the final day of the League Two season.

Hooper broke the deadlock on 51 minutes when he stretched to touch the ball over the line.

He grabbed his second on 83 minutes with a sumptuous angled strike and six minutes later completed his treble with a powerful finish from 25 yards.

Grimsby, who have gone unbeaten in their final five games of the season, finish the season in 18th place while Forest Green have ended up 21st in the table.

Forest Green created the better first-half chances but found Grimsby keeper James McKeown in fine form as he denied 25-goal striker Christian Doidge, a Scott Laird free-kick and a Charlie Cooper header.

Based on historical records, we went for an away win as our first pick and it proved true.

Kortrijk v Zulte Waregem

Our 1st Pick: 1

Our 2nd Pick: 12

Result: 1-2

It was the visitors who drew 1st blood in this thrilling encounter at the Guldensporenstadion. Theo Bongonda was the hero when his long distance shot in the 15th minute making it his 4th goal this season. Idir Ouali pulled the hosts level almost immediately with a sublime left-footed shot in and around the 21st minute.

Peter Olayinka then scored what turned to be the match winner for the hosts when his when his rifled left-footed shot found the back of the net in the 34th minute.

We had gone for a home win and a double win chance as our 1st and 2nd picks based on   head to head records and the second pick was the winning one.

Everton v Southampton

Our 1st Pick: 2

Our 2nd Pick: 1

Result: 1-1

The Saints moved out of the bottom three and above the Welsh club despite a 96th-minute Tom Davies goal that denied them victory at Everton.

Nathan Redmond’s second-half goal gave them the lead at Goodison and saw them move up a place on goal difference. Winger Redmond nodded Cedric Soares’ cross past Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in an otherwise subdued contest which saw Southampton’s Maya Yoshida sent off for two fouls.

Everton, who stay eighth in the table, were booed at the final whistle of their final home game of the season, and the result means they can no longer overhaul seventh-placed Burnley who have qualified for the Europa League.

However, the toffees almost made their numerical advantage as it took a vital save by Alex McCarthy to turn away Leighton Baines’ goal-bound free-kick before Davies’ strike deflected in off Wesley Hoedt in added time.

With the Saints battling against relegation, we had picked an away win 1st while we had a home win as our 2nd. None proved true as Baines shot was expertly saved in the dying minutes to deny the hosts maximum points.

Villareal v Valencia

Our 1st Pick: 1

Our 2nd Pick: X

Result: 1-0

The hosts created a high number of chances relative to their possession in what was a rather cagey affair between arch-rivals.

With the visitors who seem to have hit a slump in following their mid-season stellar results, the hosts made them pay for their profligacy when Mario Perez found the back of the net in the 86th minute to send the home crowd into ecstasy as it ensured that they had the bragging rights.

Going by current form, we picked out a home win as our 1st pick and this turned out to be the winning prediction.

Malaga v Alaves

Our 1st Pick: 2

Our 2nd Pick: 2

Result: 0-3

This was as one sided a match as they with the visitors proving much too dominant on the day.

Goals from Manu García after only 3 minutes, Ermedin Demirovic in the 68th minute and Ibai Gómez two minutes later ensured that Alaves walked away with maximum points much to the delight of their manager.

Chances came far and in between for the hosts as they could only muster a measly 3 shots on target compared to Alaves’ 7.

We had gone for an away win as both our picks based on current form and head to head records and this proved true.

Sheffield Wednesday v Norwich City

Our 1st Pick: 1

Our 2nd Pick: 1

Result: 5-1

Sheffield Wednesday earned their best win of the season as Atdhe Nuhiu’s hat-trick helped to hammer Norwich City.

Kosovan Nuhiu opened the scoring on 14 minutes with a far-post header before Fernando Forestieri doubled their lead.

In two second-half minutes, Frederico Venancio scored before Nuhiu rolled his second into an empty net after keeper Angus Gunn spilled in a collision.

Norwich got one back with Timm Klose’s left-foot finish, but Nuhiu had the last word from the penalty spot.

Canaries head coach Daniel Farke was forced into an 11th-minute change when key 14-goal playmaker James Maddison, who was deservedly named in the PFA Championship team of the season, went off after receiving lengthy treatment.

We had gone for a home win based on head to head records and it proved true.

Bristol City v Sheffield Utd

Our 1st Pick: 2

Our 2nd Pick: 12

Result: 2-3

Sheffield United held off a second-half fightback from Bristol City to end their Championship season with a win.

The Blades raced into a three-goal lead thanks to strikes from Leon Clarke, Billy Sharp and Kieron Freeman.

Aden Flint headed in Josh Brownhill’s corner to give the hosts a lifeline and Joe Bryan’s curled home a fine free-kick to make it 3-2.

Lee Johnson’s side pushed on for a late leveler but the Blades held out to finish 10th in the table.

Both teams had still been in contention for a play-off place until last week but went into Sunday’s game with only pride at stake.

Chris Wilder’s side stunned the hosts with three goals in the opening 34 minutes, with Freeman’s volley the pick of the bunch.

We had gone for an away win as our 1st pick based on current form and it proved to be an accurate prediction.

Leeds United v QPR

Our 1st Pick: 1

Our 2nd Pick: 12

Result: 2-0

Leeds United finished their Championship season with a routine victory against QPR at Elland Road.

Roofe put Leeds in front with a close-range overhead kick after the R’s failed to clear a corner.

Phillips doubled the advantage shortly after half-time with a left-footed shot from just outside the box.

QPR offered little threat throughout and could have conceded again were it not for some exemplary goal keeping.

The victory was Leeds’ fourth in 16 games under manager Paul Heckingbottom, leaving them 13th in the table, having finished seventh in the 2016-17 season.

Ian Holloway’s QPR ended the season 16th, comfortably clear of relegation but six points away from a top-half finish.

Based on head to head records, we had picked Leeds to win this one and they didn’t disappoint.

Millwall v Aston Villa

Our 1st Pick: X

Our 2nd Pick: 2

Result: 1-0

Millwall beat play-off bound Aston Villa but had to settle for eighth in the Championship table.

Shaun Williams gave the Lions the lead when he scored from the penalty spot after Henri Lansbury was adjudged to have fouled Jed Wallace in the area.

Villa, who will now face Middlesbrough in the play-offs, made changes for the trip to The Den and unsurprisingly lacked cohesion.

Visiting keeper Mark Bunn denied Lee Gregory a second from the spot late on. James Chester was penalized for handball in the area but Gregory saw his first effort saved by Bunn, making his first league appearance of the season, before the keeper then denied him again on the rebound.

Based on current form, we had a draw as our 1st pick with an away win as our second but none proved true as Villa produced what was arguably their worst performance of the season with one eye on their play-off match.

FC Copenhagen v Brondby IF

Our 1st Pick: 2

Our 2nd Pick: 12

Result: 1-1

This was one of those easily forgettable matches as neither team really found a way to second gear after what was truly a promising start.

Kamil Wilczek drew first blood for the visitors after only 2 minutes but somehow couldn’t maintain their fiery start to find a second goal that would have potentially killed of the game as a contest.

Their leniency and labored tempo gave the hosts a chance back into the game and they duly obliged when Pieros Sotiriou found the equalizer just before half-time.

A draw seems a fair result given the general run of play despite the fiery start. We had gone for an away win and a double win chance as our 1st and 2nd picks respectively based on head to head records but none proved true.

Metz v Angers

Our 1st Pick: 1

Our 2nd Pick: 1

Result: 1-2

Angers looked like their composure on finishes was going to let them down. Metz’ first half goal separated the teams for the majority of the game but, despite Angers missing big chances. An insane injury-time with two goals saw Angers make up for their mistakes and take the win.

Florent Mollet drew first blood in and around the 20th minute and it seemed as if the hosts had secured maximum points only for some late drama that turned the game on its head.

Mateo Pavlovic pulled the visitors level in the 92nd minute and Flavien Tait broke 13,295 home fans hearts when he sealed the dramatic comeback with a 94th minute goal.

We had gone for a home win as both our picks based on head to head records but this was unceremoniously nullified by the 2 injury time goals.

Chelsea v Liverpool

Our 1st Pick: 1

Our 2nd Pick: 1

Result: 1-0

Chelsea were firmly in the fight for a champions League spot for next season after Olivier Giroud secured a 1-0 win against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. However their draw in midweek means the champions league spot is beyond them now.

The striker netted his fifth goal in all competitions in the 32nd minute to deny Liverpool the chance to virtually assure themselves of a place in the top four.

However, should the Reds beat Brighton on the final day of the season then, despite Chelsea’s results in their final two games of the season, Liverpool will be playing Champions League football over the Blues next term.

Conte had predicted that Liverpool could be tired after travelling to Rome in midweek, where the Reds dumped Roma out of the Champions League with a 7-6 aggregate score-line in their semi-final tie.

And, indeed, it seemed as though some of the Liverpool players were struggling with fatigue, although the visitors still created the better of the early chances in west London.

Chelsea continued to create, with the returning Marcos Alonso volleying wide late on, but there were to be no more goals as the Blues kept alive their hopes of finishing in the top four while Liverpool must beat already-safe Brighton next Sunday to play in Europe’s elite competition next term.

We had gone for a Chelsea win as both our picks based on the fact that Liverpool players would be fatigued and it proved true.

Sassuolo v Sampdoria

Our 1st Pick: X

Our 2nd Pick: 1

Result: 1-0

Matteo Politano’s left footed shot from a difficult angle on the left to the bottom left corner after laudable build up work by Alfred Duncan proved to be the only goal in a rather lacklustre affair.

Sampdoria didn’t muster a single shot on target compared to 7 by the hosts. The hosts were resolute in defence and made the keeper work whenever they found themselves in the danger area.

The win over Sampdoria meant that Sassuolo are now safe from relegation in what has been a roller-coaster season in the Italian league.

We had gone for a draw as our 1st picked as the hosts needed to ensure safety with a home win as our 2nd pick which proved true.
